Caddo Commission Makes History with District 8 Appointment

Today the Caddo Commission met to fill the unexpired term for Caddo Commission District 8 vacated by Jim Taliaferro. Commissioners voted to appoint Mr. Ronald Cothran to fill the seat who will serve until a fall election is held later this year. The appointment makes history for the Caddo Parish Commission by having a majority African American make up for the first time in the history of the Parish.

"Today is important because we continue to turn the page on Caddo Parish's dark past. These districts have been racially gerrymandered for decades by cracking and stacking African American voters into districts and diluting the voting strength. Today we start down a path that will end that. I am excited and I look forward to working with Commission Cothran to help make Caddo Parish a fair and more equitable place for all citizens."
